Behind almost every computerized business transaction, there's someone called Cleo.Cleo is actually a 130-person enterprise software company headquartered in the Rockford area, which has made a unique niche for itself with its unique products."Everything in business today is digital, and businesses need ways to move all of that digital data," says Mahesh Rajasekjaran, CEO of Cleo. "We provide that with data integration and file transfer products such as Cleo LexiCom®, Cleo VL Trader®, and Cleo Harmony®, and our automated fax platform, Cleo Streem®. We partner with more than 200 well-known OEMs and Value Added Resellers, so our software is an integral part of many companies' IT solutions. In fact, since we're so prevalent in the supply chain field, it's probably fair to say that Cleo is involved in almost anything consumers buy. We're the unsung hero of business, providing solutions in the background."Originally known as Cleo Communications, Cleo began in 1976 as a division of Phone 1 Inc., a voice data gathering systems manufacturer. Cleo's advances in file transfer software led to its purchase in 2012 by investment firm Globe Equity Partners."They invested in us because they recognized the potential of our technology," says Kerrie Carroll, Senior Human Resources Manager of Cleo. "Our software is very unique, because it was built here in Rockford from the ground up. Most data integration providers buy up other companies and duct tape them together to provide their solutions. Our software is built on a core set of code that we originated. The scalability of our software gives our products abilities that other providers don't have, and makes them mission critical to every aspect of our customers' business transactions."Since 2012, Cleo has quadrupled in total size, with offices in Chicago and Bangalore, India. It provides its data integration solutions to approximately 6,000 customers, ranging from small Mom-and-Pop businesses to some of the largest organizations in the world, including Adidas, JDA Software Group, MecuryGate International, and the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Cleo's future plans include additional expansion in both its customer base and its product development. A new office is opening in the Silicon Valley area, and Cleo will be providing big data expertise to the National Science Foundation's Midwest Big Data Hub."We hope to solidify and grow by adding products to our portfolio that are on the leading edge," says Carroll. "We're planning growth with a capital G."
